Both CAT and CET are management entrance exams; that test the skills of the students on the basis of which they will select in MBA Colleges. Although these 2 exams help students to get into colleges; they have a vast difference in the pattern and colleges that accept their scores.
CAT:
CAT is one of the toughest and most competitive entrance examinations for getting admission into the management profession and studies.
The CAT exam consists of 100 questions weighing 300 marks and there are three sections vis.
- Quantitative Ability
- Verbal Ability
- Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
- 2 sections consist of Verbal Ability and Quantitative Ability of 34 questions and the Third Section ie. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning consists of 32 questions, i.e. Entire paper comprises 100 questions and each question carries 3 marks.
- 3 marks are awarded for each correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
- The time frame of 180 minutes is set for the CAT exam.

MBA-CET:
CET Common Entrance Test is conducted in Maharashtra to give admission to MBA/MMS/PGDBM/PGDBA Courses. The exam is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra. Cracking CET is comparatively easier than CAT, and as a result of which, there is an escalation in the number of students opting for CET. However, both exams are different methods of testing.
The CET examination consists of 200 questions weighing 200 marks.
There are 10 sections/areas in MAH CET:
Analytical Reasoning, Analytical Puzzle, Quantitative Ability, Quantitative Comparison, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and Reading Comprehension (RC).
One of the basic differences between the MAH CET examination and the other exams is that there is no sectional division in the question paper. The questions appear from the above-mentioned areas and the number of questions also varies in different years.
Each question carries 1 mark and 5 choices/options are given for each question. There is no negative marking in CET. The time frame of 150 minutes, i.e. 2 hours 30 minutes has been set for the CET examination.

MAH CET is getting more popular among aspirants in the rural and suburban parts of Maharashtra over the Common Admission Test (CAT) as there is no provision for group discussion and personal interview and any student scoring above zero in the entrance test is sufficient to secure a seat. Difference between the CAT & CET exams:

- Visual Reasoning is an extra section which you will find in CET Exam only. There is no such section in CAT Exam.
- Another major notable difference is CET is a Speed-based Examination where you get 200 minutes to answer 150 questions while CAT is not Speed- based examination. Also there is no negative marking in CET while CAT has a negative marking for all MCQ type wrong answers.
