Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is conducted by XLRI every year by the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI). XLRI has been conducting the XAT exam for admission to post-graduate management courses in 11 XAT member institutions for the last 60 years. Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) was conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI on January 3, 2023, from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM in a single session. XAT Exam Pattern was an Online computer-based test. XAT was the fourth computer-based test in the 60+ years of history of XAT. Till 2017, XAT Exam Pattern remained a Paper Based Test.
XAT Eligibility:
- The candidates need to have completed their graduation in any discipline with passing marks.
- The degree completed must be a minimum of three years duration or its equivalent.
- Students studying in the final year of their graduation can also apply for the XAT exam, as long as they complete their graduation degree by June of the exam year they are appearing
XAT EXAM PATTERN:
The XAT Exam pattern had four sections totaling 100 questions. XAT was a computer-based test instead of an earlier paper-based XAT pattern that used to be conducted before 2018. Below is shared the XAT exam pattern:

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
The questions in this section are usually asked from Arithmetic, Algebra, Numbers systems, Probability, Functions, Data Interpretations, and Geometry. The Candidate has to be very good at basic maths to attempt these questions in XAT. Expertise requires a lot of time and practice for preparation. Improving calculation skills and approximation skills is crucial for this section during the preparation. Data Interpretation is typical so you better solve these questions initially and select what you’re comfortable with during the preparation for XAT.

Decision-Making
The Decision-Making section is to test a candidate’s decision-making skills and judging ability of the candidate in a given situation. You will get questions from different scenarios. They may include Employee Problems and concerns, Ethical matters, psychology, etc.
Strategy for XAT decision making
You have to imagine yourself in that situation and as an imperious decide what is good for the company given in the situation. You have to answer these questions unbiasedly and your answer must be the right fit for your organization.
Verbal and Logical Ability
Reading skills are very important for verbal and Logical Ability. Understanding the question is very important, read the question twice or thrice if you have to but understand it very clearly and answer it correctly. This section is to test the reasoning skills of the candidate so don’t focus completely on Vocabulary skills for this exam.
Key factors in XAT Exam Pattern:
- NAT Questions: A new type of Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions in the XAT pattern had been introduced by XLRI. To answer the NAT questions candidates have to use the virtual keypad appearing on the computer screen and enter the numerical answer. However, there was no such question
- Penalty for Un-attempted Questions: Each un-attempted question beyond 8 questions carries a negative marking penalty of 0.10 marks per unattempted question in the revised XAT exam pattern
- No Essay Writing Test: There is no descriptive question on the Essay Writing test in the revised XAT pattern
- XAT Time Duration Reduced: XAT exam pattern will have a time duration of three hours instead of the earlier three and a half hours.
- 25 Minutes Extra for Visually Impaired Candidates: XAT exam pattern offers 25 minutes extra time for the scribe to complete part 1 (first 3 sections) of the XAT exam. No time concession is given for the GK section

XLRI Xavier School of Management (XLRI-XMS) is situated in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and is the country’s oldest business school founded by a few Jesuit Fathers in 1949. Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad (MICA)
Established in 1991, Mudra Institute of Communication (MICA), is a postgraduate institute, located on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) is a self-governing private business school in India. It was founded in 1980 and is located in the Karnataka university town of Manipal.
