What is NMIMS?

NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) offers a two – year full-time program spread over six trimesters and leading to a degree in Master of Business Administration. The most notable features of the program are its flexibility and objectives of providing a genuinely broad-based education. Annual Seminar, CEO series of guest lectures, business simulation games, personal growth lab, psychological profiling, personality development workshops (MBTI), create all-round development for students. Final year students have a variety of specializations to choose from, depending on their aptitude and preferences and have the freedom to choose from a large number of electives every trimester. They say that talent is nurtured at NMIMS. Is it true?

Yes, it is absolutely true. I was a different individual altogether when I entered NMIMS and I feel that I have changed a lot since then. The institute is located in a prime location in Mumbai. This gives a huge locational advantage and helps in attracting a lot of guest speakers apart from helping in attracting many companies for placements. Also, for any student, staying in Mumbai for 2 years is a good learning experience. It is the financial capital of India. If you are fond of parties, Mumbai is the perfect place for you. At NMIMS we worked hard and partied even harder. You meet a lot of like-minded people at MBA and you get along pretty soon. We had freshers party, parties post-selection in summer placements, after getting a PPO, after getting thru final placements, name it and you have a party for anything and everything.

How was the starting of your journey?

I gave the NMAT exam and luckily happened to score well and got into NMIMS. The adventure begins with an engaging one-week induction: With visits to industries, simulation games, outbound training (not unlike a boot camp), and Mumbai Darshan (NM Style !) you will have a week to remember forever.
Throughout the week you will literally have no energy left to feel tired anymore. You are keen on developing a good network so you spend time with your peers and make friends. You spend a lot of time with them.

How was your learning experience at NMIMS?

As everyone is well aware of the fact that NMIMS Mumbai has top-notch state of the art infrastructure, it provided us with excellent amenities like the most advanced library, reading room, Bloomberg terminal, classrooms with centralized air conditioning and a lot more. When you are in an environment like this, you ensure that you make the most of it. The learning pattern at NMIMS is very elegant and unique. They strictly follow a case study approach to make sure that all your concepts are crystal clear. It is even more fun and you end up learning stuff in the most efficient way possible when you learn through examples.

How were the teachers at NMIMS?

The professors really have made a world of a difference to the process of learning. We ended up developing very good relations with our professors. I would rather say that it was more of a peer to peer connection that we had developed with our professors at NMIMS. It was all because of the discussion-oriented interactive approach that they follow while teaching. The teachers make every class an interactive one and that already has made the ESM (Engineering Study Method) obsolete. You will have tons of opportunities to explore beyond the bookish pedagogy – case studies, competitions at companies, colleges, and engaging committees with a high emphasis on holistic development.

Any parting thoughts?

You will truly fall in love with this institute and especially with a certain cadre of students of specific anatomy which attend another college in and around the vicinity guys will always be upon their toes 😉
