Q: What inspired you to enroll in a PGDM program?

I believe that successful managers should possess strong communication skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, excellent leadership qualities, and the capacity to motivate and inspire their team members.

Q: In your opinion, what are the significant challenges that businesses face today? 

Some of the significant challenges that businesses face today include intense global competition, rapid technological advancement, evolving customer demands and expectations, and the need to be agile and responsive to changes in the market.

Q: What are the challenges current companies are facing due to the onset of covid?

The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about numerous challenges for current companies. One of the most significant challenges is the sudden shift towards remote work and the need to adopt new technologies to facilitate virtual collaboration. This shift has resulted in a major adjustment for companies and their employees, especially in terms of communication, work processes, and team coordination.

Another challenge is the impact of Covid-19 on supply chains and global trade. Many companies have experienced disruptions in their supply chains due to factory shutdowns, transportation restrictions, and other logistical challenges. This has led to delays in production, increased costs, and difficulties in meeting customer demand.

Furthermore, Covid-19 has also impacted consumer behavior and purchasing patterns. Companies have had to adjust their marketing strategies and product offerings to cater to changing consumer needs and preferences. Moreover, the economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic has resulted in reduced consumer spending, leading to decreased revenue for many businesses.

Q: In what ways do you envision utilizing your PGDM degree? 

I plan to leverage my PGDM degree to gain a comprehensive understanding of business management and cultivate the necessary competencies to succeed as a business leader. Additionally, I aim to apply my knowledge and skills to aid organizations in developing strategies that will help them remain competitive in today’s global market.

Q: In what ways do you consider yourself different from other applicants?

Q: From your past experiences, what is the most significant lesson you have learned? 

The most significant lesson I have learned from my past experiences is that success requires hard work and dedication. I have also learned that being open-minded and willing to learn from others is crucial for achieving success.

Q: How do you approach difficult situations?

In challenging situations, I take a step back to assess the situation objectively before making any decisions. I remain calm and composed to think clearly and find an effective solution. I am not hesitant to seek help from others when needed to ensure the situation is handled properly.

I was thrilled to receive an invitation for a virtual personal interview at IBA for their PGDM program. During the interview, I was greeted by a panel of interviewers who asked me to introduce myself. I spoke about my background, academic achievements, and work experience, and they seemed impressed.

The interviewers then proceeded to ask me some challenging questions about my goals, strengths, weaknesses, and how I would handle difficult situations in a professional setting. I answered their questions to the best of my ability, and I could feel myself growing more confident as the interview progressed.

The interviewers also inquired about my knowledge of current affairs and the latest trends in the industry, and I was able to showcase my analytical skills and critical thinking abilities in my responses.

Overall, I felt that the interview went well, and I left the meeting feeling satisfied with my performance. IBA is one of the top business schools in the country, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have interviewed there. 

The following questions were asked during my interview:

Q: Could you give a brief introduction about yourself?

Certainly, my name is Bharath Krishna and I come from Vellore, Tamil Nadu. I have recently completed my BBA degree and have 14 months of work experience as a content reviewer at Concentrix. In addition, I have represented my school, college, and district teams in cricket up to the U-19 level. I am eager to enhance my understanding of finance and business analytics through the PGDM program.

Q: Can you give a brief overview of your job profile at Concentrix? 

At Concentrix, I worked as a content reviewer where my main role was to ensure that the content posted on various platforms met the required guidelines and standards. I was responsible for analyzing and verifying the accuracy of the information, providing feedback and suggestions for improvement, and ensuring that the content was appropriate and relevant.

Q: What drew you to the field of business analytics? 

My experience at Concentrix exposed me to the power of data and how it can be leveraged to extract valuable insights. This piqued my interest in the field of analytics and its potential for driving business success. I am excited to develop my skills in this area through a PGDM program and contribute to the field of analytics.

Q: What were some of the major projects you worked on at Concentrix and what tools did you use for content review? 

During my time at Concentrix, I worked on several projects, including reviewing content for a leading social media platform and ensuring that it met their guidelines and standards. I also worked on a project where I had to analyze and categorize customer feedback for a well-known e-commerce company. To perform these tasks, I used various tools such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and internal review tools provided by the companies.

Q: What is the meaning of goodwill?

Goodwill is an intangible asset that represents the value of a company’s reputation, brand name, customer relationships, and other non-physical assets. It is the amount that a buyer is willing to pay for a company over and above its tangible assets and liabilities.

Q: What are the golden rules of accounting?

The golden rules of accounting are a set of fundamental principles that guide the recording and reporting of financial transactions. There are three golden rules of accounting:

Debit the receiver and credit the giver

Debit what comes in and credit what goes out

Debit expenses and losses, credit income and gains

Q: What do you understand by the term economies of scale?

Economies of scale refer to the cost advantages that a company can achieve by increasing the scale of its operations. This means that the cost of producing each unit of output decreases as the volume of production increases. This can be achieved through factors such as bulk purchasing of raw materials, specialization of labor, and increased efficiency in production processes. As a result, companies can lower their unit costs and increase their profit margins.

Q: What are your strengths and weaknesses? 

I consider my strengths to be my ability to work effectively in a team, problem-solving skills, and active listening. My weakness is sometimes procrastination.

Q: How would you describe yourself as a team player? 

As a team player, I would describe myself as someone who is collaborative, communicative, and committed. I believe in working closely with my team members to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and finding ways to complement each other’s skills to achieve our common goal. I also believe in effective communication and ensuring that everyone is on the same page, so we can work efficiently and avoid any misunderstandings. Lastly, I am committed to the team’s success and am willing to put in the extra effort to ensure that we meet our targets and exceed expectations. 

Q: Could you explain the research paper you mentioned in your resume? 

During my B.B.A studies, I conducted research on leadership qualities. I elaborated on the research objective, methodology, data collection, and data analysis performed in the paper.

Q: What are some leadership qualities you possess? 

I believe I possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, as listening is one of my core strengths. By actively listening, I can understand and analyze any situation, allowing me to make effective decisions.

Q: Why have you chosen to pursue PGDM? 

I believe that PGDM will help me enhance my business knowledge and acumen. Through the program’s industry-oriented curriculum, I hope to gain practical knowledge and experience. I discussed how PGDM can help advance my career.

Q: Have you administered a project or a team during or post your graduation?

Yes, I have administered a team during my graduation internship. I was given the responsibility to manage a team of three interns and oversee a project for a client. I ensured that the team was working efficiently and effectively towards the project goals, and I provided support and guidance whenever needed.

Q: What is the difference between management and administration?

While there is some overlap between the two, management refers to the process of planning, organizing, and directing resources (including people) to achieve specific goals or objectives. Administration, on the other hand, refers to the process of managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of an organization. In other words, management is concerned with achieving long-term objectives, while administration is concerned with ensuring the smooth running of an organization in the short-term.

Q: What do you intend to do with degrees in management and business administration?

With degrees in management and business administration, I intend to pursue a career in a management or leadership role in a reputed organization. I am confident that the knowledge and skills I have gained through my studies will help me to succeed in a dynamic and challenging business environment.

Q: Imagine you have to start your own company. What are the financial aspects you need to look into?

If I were to start my own company, some of the key financial aspects I would need to consider include: determining start-up costs and securing funding, creating a budget and cash flow projections, managing expenses and revenue streams, and maintaining accurate financial records. Additionally, I would need to have a solid understanding of financial principles such as accounting, taxation, and financial reporting.

Q: What do you think your co-workers and supervisor think about you?

I believe my co-workers and supervisor would think of me as a reliable and hardworking team player who is dedicated to achieving team goals. I strive to maintain open and effective communication with my colleagues, and I always make an effort to understand their perspectives and ideas. Additionally, I am constantly seeking to improve my skills and knowledge, and I am not afraid to take on new challenges.

In this personal interview, I was interviewed by Professor V Suresh Chandra, who has over 12+ years of experience in academics and 29+ years of experience in the industry. The interview covered various aspects, including my introduction, my educational background, hobbies, family background, and some general knowledge questions about my hometown.

Q: Can you introduce yourself and provide some background information? 

My answer: Hello, my name is Guru Chandu, and I am originally from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. I hold an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, and completed my 12th grade in Science from Andhra Pradesh. In my free time, I enjoy playing both outdoor and indoor games. I come from a family of four, with my mother, father, elder brother, and myself.

Q: Can you share some information about Tirupati, your hometown? 

My answer: Tirupati is a city located in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in Southern India. It is renowned for the Sri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple, which is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites globally. Additionally, Tirupati has a rich cultural heritage, diverse cuisine, and numerous festivals. It is also a prominent educational hub, home to several well-respected universities and colleges.

Q: Can you talk about your experience studying in South India? 

My answer: My undergraduate studies have been a significant learning experience for me. During this time, I developed strong analytical and critical thinking skills, which I believe are essential in any field. I was also involved in several research projects, which helped me develop problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.

Q: What are your core strengths? 

My answer: I believe my core strengths include my ability to work well in a team, my analytical and critical thinking skills, and my strong work ethic. I developed these skills through my undergraduate studies and extracurricular activities, and I am confident that they will help me excel in any field I choose to pursue.

Q: Have you ever wished to have a life like North Indians since you are from South India?

My answer: While I appreciate the culture and traditions of North India, I am proud of my South Indian heritage. I believe that South India has its unique culture, cuisine, and festivals, which are just as rich and vibrant as those of North India. I think that India’s cultural diversity is what makes it unique, and we should embrace it.

Q: Imagine you are a supplier of COVID-19 vaccines. What protocols would you follow to ensure the safe supply of doses?

My answer: To ensure the safe supply of COVID-19 doses, I would follow several protocols, such as maintaining the cold chain, implementing quality control measures, tracking and tracing the supply chain, ensuring proper storage and transportation, maintaining adequate inventory management, and keeping proper documentation. By adhering to these protocols, I believe that the supply of COVID-19 doses would be both safe and efficient.

The second round of interviews was conducted by Professor Nagendra G. Hegde, who has around 8+ years of experience in academics and 12+ years of experience in industry.

I completed my 12th standard in Science from Andhra Pradesh. I enjoy playing both outdoor and indoor games. I come from a family of four with my mother, father, elder brother, and myself.

Q: What do you consider a good job? 

My answer: I believe a good job is one that commands respect from others and makes my parents proud.

Q: What subjects are you studying in your seventh semester? 

My answer: In my seventh semester, I am studying Python, Artificial Intelligence, Nanotechnology, Control Engineering, CAD/CAM, and Mechanical Vibration.

Q: What are your short-term and long-term goals? 

My answer: In the short term, I would like to secure a job in operations in companies like Reliance or Adani, where I can apply my skills and contribute to the company’s vision and mission. In the long term, my goal is to lead the entire operations division of Evergreen Marine Company.

Q: Can you tell me about your family background? 

My answer: My parents work in Kuwait; my father works in the finance department of a logistics company, and my mother is a beautician. My elder brother is currently pursuing an MBA from Thiagarajar School of Management in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Q: Why should we take you in? 

My answer: I believe that my educational qualifications, experience, and skillset make me a suitable candidate. I am a quick learner, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and am a team player. I am also adaptable and can work in a dynamic environment. Q: How can a company improve its customer experience? 

My answer: To improve the customer experience, a company can:

Q: How do you make a brand trustworthy?

Q: Being a graduate in Mechanical Engineering, give me some information on the three latest developments in the field.

As per my knowledge, the three latest developments I would like to emphasize would be:

Additive Manufacturing: This technology, also known as 3D printing, is rapidly transforming the manufacturing industry. It allows for the creation of complex parts and structures using a layer-by-layer approach, and has applications in a variety of fields, including aerospace, automotive, and medical devices.

Internet of Things (IoT): IoT is the interconnection of physical devices, vehicles, buildings, and other objects embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity. It has the potential to transform manufacturing processes by enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and remote control of machines and systems.

Renewable Energy Technologies: With the growing concern over climate change, there is a greater focus on developing sustainable and renewable sources of energy. Advances in wind, solar, and hydropower technologies are allowing for more efficient and cost-effective energy generation, which will have a significant impact on the future of the energy sector.

Q: What are the most pressing issues in the engineering sector, especially mechanical engineering?

There are several pressing issues in the engineering sector, especially in mechanical engineering. One of the most significant issues is the need to reduce carbon emissions and address climate change. This requires the development of more sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies, such as renewable energy sources and electric vehicles.

Another pressing issue in mechanical engineering is the need to improve the efficiency and productivity of manufacturing processes. This involves the use of advanced manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing and automation, to reduce costs and increase productivity.

Additionally, there is a growing need to address the shortage of skilled workers in the mechanical engineering field. This requires a focus on education and training programs to develop the next generation of engineers with the necessary skills and knowledge to address these issues and drive innovation in the field.

The session was a remarkable one as the interviewer and I got a chance to discuss diverse matters. When asked if I had any queries, I asked about the research opportunities and placement services provided by the college. I was responded adroitly to my questions. 


Name: Samujjal Dutta

Attending an entrance interview can be both exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. It is an opportunity to showcase one’s skills, knowledge and personality to the interviewer. My personal interview at IBA was anxiety ridden initially but gradually it turned out to be one of my best interviews. The questions asked me to me were:

Q: Could you please introduce yourself, Samujjal? 

Ans: Good afternoon, Sir. My name is Samujjal Dutta, and I am from Assam. I completed my schooling from KVIOC Noonmati, where I received the Rajya Puraskar, a state award under Bharat Scouts and Guides. I pursued my graduation in B.Com. with a specialization in finance from Gauhati Commerce College. During my college days, I actively volunteered in social awareness campaigns like cervical cancer awareness camp, Swachh Bharath campaign, and Fit India campaign, among others. I am also a yoga enthusiast and have participated in state-level yoga competitions. Additionally, I am a Visharad in Tabla.

Q: Samujjal, could you tell us the meaning of your name? 

Ans: Certainly, sir. My name means “evergreen bright.”

Q: Why did you choose to pursue PGDM? Have you considered any other fields like fitness, art, or culture? 

Ans: Sir, I believe that fitness is crucial for achieving success in any field. I practice yoga regularly to keep myself fit and healthy. Tabla is another passion of mine, which helps me calm my mind and maintain a harmonious rhythm in my behavior. However, I have chosen to pursue PGDM as I believe it will help me develop the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the business world.

Q: Have you completed your B.Com. final exams? How was your overall experience? 

Ans: Yes, Sir. My final exams are over, and I am happy to report that I have secured an overall CGPA of 8.01.

Q: Why have you decided to pursue a PGDM course? 

Ans: After completing my graduation, I want to enter the world of business and develop my skills in management. Pursuing a PGDM will help me hone my business acumen and become a better professional. I have a strong interest in marketing and finance and believe that my people-oriented personality will be best utilized in these fields. Overall, I see the PGDM course as an opportunity to shape my career and achieve my goals in the business world.

Q: What is marketing? 

Ans: Marketing is all about promoting products and services to create value for customers. It’s a continuous process that helps drive sales and revenue for businesses.

Q: Why do you want to pursue a dual specialization in marketing and finance? 

Ans: Well, I really enjoy studying finance and understanding how the financial industry works. At the same time, I believe marketing plays a crucial role in creating value for customers and driving revenue for businesses. By combining these two specializations, I can learn how to connect financial services with customers and create value for them. Plus, it aligns with my interests and personality.

Q: Why do you think customers prefer one company over the other? 

Ans: Customers prefer one company over the other based on several factors such as the quality of the product or service, the reputation of the company, customer service, brand image, price, and convenience. A company that excels in these areas and delivers a great customer experience is likely to have a loyal customer base.

Q: What do you mean by marketing funnel in digital marketing? 

Ans: The marketing funnel in digital marketing is a framework used to understand the customer journey from awareness to purchase. It is divided into several stages, including awareness, interest, consideration, intent, evaluation, and purchase. The goal is to guide the customer through each stage of the funnel with targeted marketing messages that move them towards making a purchase.

Q: How does language and content work on the perceptions of prospective clients? 

Ans: Language and content are critical in shaping the perceptions of prospective clients. Effective language and content can help build trust and credibility with customers, enhance brand image, and convey the value of products or services. Language and content that resonate with the target audience and address their pain points can lead to higher engagement and conversions.

Q: What are assets and liabilities? 

Ans: Assets are resources that a company owns and controls, which can be used to generate revenue. Examples of assets include cash, investments, property, and equipment. Liabilities, on the other hand, are obligations that a company owes to others. Examples of liabilities include loans, accounts payable, and taxes owed.

Q: Please tell me something about shifts in stock market post covid.

Ans: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the stock market. Initially, there was a sharp decline in the stock market in March 2020 as a result of the lockdowns and economic uncertainty. However, since then, there has been a significant recovery in the stock market due to the massive stimulus packages and low-interest rates provided by the governments and central banks. The pandemic has also accelerated the adoption of digital technology, leading to a surge in the stock prices of technology companies. However, the pandemic has also highlighted the fragility of some sectors, such as travel and tourism, which have been severely impacted and may take some time to recover fully. Overall, the stock market has shown resilience in the face of the pandemic and is expected to continue to be a key indicator of the economic recovery.

Q: Do you have any questions for me? 

Ans: Yes, I was wondering what types of businesses are represented at IBA? Any specific companies that come for finance?

Q: Can you introduce yourself?

Ans: Yes, of course. Hi, my name is Sakshi Kathane. I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Dr. Ambedkar College of Nagpur, RTMNU University. I am interested in pursuing PGDM with a specialization in Finance at this esteemed institution. In my free time, I love writing poetry and trying my hand at different artistic endeavors.

Q: What did you do during the Covid pandemic?

Ans: During the pandemic, I tried my best to stay productive and engaged in different activities. I cooked different varieties of food, tried to learn Spanish, and experimented with various crafts and artistic pursuits to keep myself busy.

Q: What is the difference between a P/L a/c and the statement of P/L a/c?

Ans: To the best of my knowledge, there is no difference between a P/L a/c and a statement of P/L a/c. Both are essentially the same thing, and they refer to the financial statement that shows a company’s revenue, expenses, and net income or loss over a specific period.

Q: The PGDM course can be very rigorous, sometimes requiring you to work day and night. Do you think you can manage that?

Ans: Yes, I believe that I am up for the challenge. In fact, I am looking forward to the program’s rigor and intensity because I am passionate about the ideal corporate life that everyone talks about. I am excited to gain exposure to working under pressure, making instant decisions, building and coordinating teams, and working collaboratively to achieve our goals.

Q: What motivated you to pursue PGDM? 

Ans: I have always been fascinated with the corporate world and the skills required to manage a business. PGDM seems like the ideal way to gain exposure to these skills and prepare me for a career in management.

Q: Which specializations are you interested in pursuing? 

Ans: I am primarily interested in finance, but I am also considering marketing or business analytics as my second specialization.

Q: Why do you want to combine marketing and finance or business analytics and finance? 

Ans: I believe that combining finance with marketing or business analytics will give me a broader skillset and increase my employability. Additionally, marketing is an area where I have no prior knowledge, and I think it will challenge me and keep me interested in the program.

Q: How familiar are you with the market around you, and do you frequently purchase groceries or vegetables? 

Ans: Yes, I frequently purchase groceries and vegetables from the nearby market, and I have a good understanding of the market’s workings.

Q: Having said that, can you tell me the current price of any item which you recently bought from the market? 

Ans: Yes, yesterday I bought peas which were priced at Rs. 22 per kg.

Q: Can you explain the difference between capital and working capital? 

Ans: Certainly. Capital refers to the total amount of money a company has available to fund its operations, investments, and growth. On the other hand, working capital refers to the amount of money a company has to finance its day-to-day operations, such as paying for inventory, salaries, and other expenses. In simpler terms, capital is a broader term that includes all the funds available to a company, whereas working capital is a subset of that, specifically referring to the money available to keep the company running smoothly.

Q: What are the different types of companies? 

Ans: There are several types of companies, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies (LLCs), corporations, and cooperatives. A sole proprietorship is a business owned and operated by one person. A partnership is a business owned and operated by two or more people. An LLC is a type of business structure that combines the liability protection of a corporation with the tax benefits of a partnership. A corporation is a separate legal entity from its owners, and it has shareholders who own the business. A cooperative is a business owned and operated by its members, who share the profits and decision-making responsibilities.

Ans: Business administrators need to have a wide range of skills and qualities, including leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. They must be able to manage resources, finances, and personnel effectively, while also being able to adapt to changing circumstances and market conditions. A strong understanding of business principles, ethics, and laws is also essential for success as a business administrator.

Q: What is flexible budgeting? 

Ans: Flexible budgeting is a budgeting approach that allows for adjustments to be made to a budget as circumstances change. This approach is particularly useful in situations where it is difficult to accurately predict future expenses or revenues, such as in a rapidly changing market or during times of economic uncertainty. By allowing for changes to be made to the budget, companies can more effectively manage their resources and respond to unexpected challenges or opportunities.

Q: What is the difference between MOA and AOA? 

Ans: MOA and AOA are both important documents used in the incorporation of a company. MOA stands for Memorandum of Association, which outlines the company’s objectives, capital structure, and powers. AOA stands for Articles of Association, which outlines the rules and regulations for the internal management of the company. 

Q: If you were the CEO of a company, what factors would keep you motivated to run your business during COVID times? 

Ans: As a CEO, I would focus on several factors to stay motivated during COVID times, including staying informed about the latest market trends and economic indicators, maintaining a positive company culture, staying connected with my team and customers, and being flexible and adaptable in response to changing circumstances. It would also be important to stay committed to the company’s core values and mission, while also being willing to innovate and explore new opportunities. Ultimately, the key to staying motivated during challenging times is to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to the long-term success of the company.
