Summary
Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer-adaptive test which assesses a person’s analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills in standard written English. GMAT is taken in preparation for being admitted into a graduate management program, such as MBA and Masters in Finance related courses.
The GMAT exam is a computer adaptive test and not a computer based test, which means that the candidate will get one question at a time and depending on the accuracy of the previous answer, the difficulty level of the next question will be ascertained. The average scores required for universities abroad varies; top tier universities require at least 710, while middle tier universities accept 600.
For Executive MBA, GMAC has recently introduced a new Mini GMAT called Executive Assessment exam. This exam is specially designed for EMBA applicants and is of considerably shorter duration. It is meant to test analytical and logical thinking of the applicant, which is more suited for the Executive MBA course.
The Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing Assessment along with the Score Preview and the optional break time will remain same. These changes will not have any impact on scoring in the shortened Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative sections as only the unscored items have been removed by the GMAC.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for the GMAT exam has not been officially stated by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), but the candidates must possess the following qualification to take admission in the MBA programme of foreign university.
1.Candidate must be a graduate from a recognized board or university.
2.Candidate must be proficient in English Language.
The candidate must be minimum 18 years of age.
There is no upper age limit to take the GMAT exam.
Apart from these there are no other eligibility criteria specified by the GMAT exam conducting authorities, whereas the institute or university in which the student will take admission may have some eligibility condition and they may vary from university to university.
GMAT Fees
The application fee for GMAT 2018 is $250, which would roughly translate to Rs 15,000-16,000 approximately. Also, if the applicants want to change the center or reschedule the test then they will be charged $50 extra.
Process
Step 1:Fill the Application Form.
Taking the GMAT opens the door to a graduate business degree from a top global program. It’s your best step to improve your business skills and advance your career.
The candidates have the liberty of giving the exam anytime in the year as per their convenience. The important thing to note is that the candidates can reschedule their next attempt only after 16 days of taking the first attempt. A candidate is only allowed five attempts in one year.
Steps to register for GMAT 2018:
2.Once the candidate has logged on to the GMAT official website, s/he will have to fill in the required basic information such as name, address etc.
3.The candidate will have to create an ID and password.
4.The next step will be making online payment of the application fee, which is $250. The candidate can make online payment through credit card, debit card, net banking; whichever is suitable for the candidate.
5.After the completion of these steps, the candidate can log in and select the date and place to take the exam.
Step 2: Choose a Test Center To take the GMAT exam : You must first select a test center. Each test center operates on its own schedule and can accommodate varying numbers of test takers throughout the day.
How to Schedule Your Appointment : You may register for the test online, by phone, by mail, or by fax. You will incur taxes to schedule an exam in certain countries. Available time slots change continuously based on capacity and ongoing registration. You will find out which times are available at your chosen test center when you register. Be sure to enter your name and birth date exactly as they appear on the identification you will present at the test center. Fee payments can only be made by credit card or debit card. Be sure to have your VISA®, MasterCard®, American Express®, or JCB card ready.
Step 3: Appear for GMAT 2018 exam The GMAT exam is comprised of four sections – Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, and Verbal. At the test center, just before your exam begins, you can select the order in which you want to complete the sections. Total exam time is 3 hours, 7 minutes.
Three options will be available for your exam’s section order:
1.Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal (original order)
2.Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment
3.Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing Assessment
There is no “correct” or “recommended” section order to select. This choice simply gives you more control and flexibility to take the GMAT exam based on your strengths and testing preferences.
Step 4: Check GMAT 2018 Results
After you take the GMAT exam, you will receive five scores: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal, and Total. A new score feature now enables you to preview your unofficial GMAT scores before deciding whether to accept or cancel them. The change gives you more control of your score reporting.
The candidate will have an option of accepting it or rejecting it. In the case of accepting the result, the candidate and the institutes of choice can view the result; but if the candidate declines the result none of the parties will be able to view the result of GMAT. Once the exam is over, candidates can download the non-official GMAT result. The main GMAT result can be downloaded only after 20 working days from one’s individual account on the GMAT website.

Exam Pattern
The GMAT exam pattern consists of mainly four sections which will test the candidate’s’ abilities on various parameters. These are – Writing, Reasoning, Verbal and Quantitative skills. The GMAT exam will be conducted in a time span of 3 hours and 30 minutes. GMAT scores are given with an increment of 10 points for example: 550, 560, 570 etc.
